Pharmacy Education Equivalency in the United States
In the United States, pharmacy education lasts six years, and upon graduation, students earn the title of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), qualifying as clinical pharmacists. A pharmacy degree obtained in Türkiye, however, is not recognized in the U.S. Therefore, pharmacists who have completed their education in Türkiye must obtain a state pharmacy license in order to practice their profession in America.
The process generally follows these steps:
For the pharmacy licensure process, only TOEFL scores obtained in the United States are accepted. This requirement does not apply to those who come for academic purposes such as a Master’s or PhD.
The exam is designed to assess whether pharmacists educated in Türkiye or other countries meet U.S. standards.
Students are required to complete a 10-month internship in a pharmacy in the United States.
A minimum score of 75 is required. Once achieved, the exam is considered successfully passed.
After passing the NAPLEX, candidates are eligible to apply for licensure in any state. However, once accepted in one state, applicants must wait one year before applying to additional states.
